The Mc Ivor Trust

James Stuart Mc Ivor was born on the 24th of August, 1947 in the small town of Dumfries, Scotland. He was a member of Kyle Kayak Club in Ayr where he developed a passion for canoeing as a teenager and as money was tight, he had a job before and after school in order to pursue the sport.

He learnt from an early age, that if you wanted something, you had to work hard to get it. He devoted his time to the sport and reached the British canoeing finals on the Serpentine, and was then shortlisted for the Olympic team.

Stuart, unfortunately, had to let go of his dream to focus on working life, however, he never let go of his love for canoeing and being on the water. Stuart went on to become an incredibly successful businessman, with a career that took him all over the world and settling in Hong Kong. He had four children, all boys. Stuart passed away on the 7th of January 2013.

The Trust has raised over £5000 which has allowed the Club to upgrade it's fleet of junior kayaks and kit.
