The club offers opportunities for people who wish to paddle – no matter what their experience or capabilities. Whether you are looking for tuition, developing new skills and experience, or simply want to enjoy paddling with like minded folk, we welcome you along.

On the River
 – from grade 2 waters through to the more adrenalin pumping challenges of grades 3, 4 or 5 white water kayaking – whatever suites your ability and inclination.

We run river trips most weekends normally on the local rivers – the Doon and the Ayr, sometimes venturing further a field to rivers such as the Nith, the Awe and the Tay.

Sea Kayaking – half day, or full day sea trips, on the Firth of Clyde – either following the coast line, or paddling out from Troon or Largs. For weekend club trips we head up the West Coast, to run the tides, or perhaps just enjoy the scenery and wildlife found on unspoilt shores. Smaller groups, on informal forays, go to magical places like the Grey Dogs and Corrivecken, where the sheer volume of the tidal race; its standing waves, and whirlpools, can test even the most ardent paddler.

Weekend trips –The club organises two or three weekend trips each year. These give the opportunity to explore different waters and the chance to relax at the end of the day and enjoy good company. On river trips we use bunkhouses, camping out when we go to the coast. These trips always cater for varying abilities.

Coaching and courses
The club has a number of qualified coaches. We offer a 6 week course on basic kayaking skills to get you started. These courses are run twice a year, however there are always club members willing to help  improve skills on local river trips, or on the sea around Ayr.

You can work towards the BCU Star tests – the club offers assessment up to 3 Star. There are also opportunities to attend courses on 4 and 5 Star, White Water Safety and First Aid, with financial support is available for this and for those wishing to go on to coaching qualifications.

Pool Sessions.

A weekly pool session at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr throughout the winter, allows folk to hone their skills in a warm and safe environment. Sessions are on Sundays from 6.00 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.  Please check the web site for any last minute cancellations.

The club has boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, cagoules and spray decks suitable for beginners. You will find guidance on personal clothing elsewhere on this website.

If you’ve explored the site this far, you’re definitely interested. Come and give it a go.
